Learn About the Total Rewards Model to Help Retain and Motivate Employees

Total Rewards encompass five components — compensation, well-being, benefits, development, and recognition — that collectively define an organization’s strategy to attract, motivate, retain, and engage employees. By taking Bryant University’s Introduction to Total Rewards course as part of your Human Resource Management Certificate, you will enhance your skills related to managing benefits and compensation plans.

Through the Introduction to Total Rewards course — part of Bryant’s larger Human Resource Management Certificate program — you will:

  • Understand the Total Rewards Model (TRM).
  • Describe the role of the TRM in an overall HR strategy.
  • Define each of the TRM components: compensation, well-being, benefits, development, and recognition.
  • Assess the work involved in developing a TRM for an organization, including legal and regulatory compliance, policy and plan development, structure, and design.
  • Communicate the value of a total rewards package.

Course Requirements

This five-week, self-paced course includes guided learning with multimedia, interactive modules, and curated readings. Discussion posts are due on Mondays and all other deliverables are due on Saturdays. Expect approximately 4-5 hours of work per week.  

First-time online learner? “Strategies for Success” is a one-week module that will familiarize you with our learning system before you begin your program and ensure you are ready to participate. Required for all first-time, self-paced Bryant learners.

Meet Your Instructor: Roberta Gordon

Roberta Gordon serves as senior higher education advisor for workday services for Accenture’s Education and Government Consulting Practice. She brings more than 20 years of experience working in both higher education and human resources. The majority of her career was spent as the chief HR officer at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She has also served as the HR manager at a manufacturing subsidiary of Colgate Palmolive and as the compensation and benefits manager at Women and Infants Hospital. She holds an MBA from Bryant University.
